Biotechnology Young Entrepreneurs Scheme 2008

Biotechnology YES is an annual competition led by BBSRC, now in its 13th year, that aims to help the UK’s early career bioscientists gain the skills and contacts needed to turn research into commercial reality. Year on year the competition grows in popularity. Through regional heats across the UK, young scientists compete for places in the final, mentored by a team of advisors including financiers, intellectual property experts and spin-out company heads.

DCU Alumni Entrepeneur Network

The Helix played host to the DCU Alumni Entrepreneur Network on Monday, 1 March. The event was hosted by Chief News Correspondent with the Sunday Business Post and DCU alumnus Ian Kehoe.
Among the speakers were 11890 Managing Director Nicola Byrne and Norkom Technologies CEO and DCU Alumnus Paul Kerley. The evening concluded with a talk by former Irish International footballer Niall Quinn.

Future Alumni Events include the Alumni Reunion on Friday, 10 September.

University students are accusing the government of failing to create an enabling environment for job creation in the private sector. Social Entrepreneurs: Pioneering Social Change

The Skoll Foundation has recently completed a short film about the field of social entrepreneurship. Its a great overview of the progress made over the last three decades. It starts with Mohammad Yunus and includes interviews with a number of social entrepreneurs and others in the field, including Sally Osberg of the Skoll Foundation, Bill Drayton of Ashoka, Jacqueline Novogratz of the Acumen Fund, John Elkington of Volans, and author David Bornstein.
