Devi Shetty is a surgeon,a businessman and a philanthropist rolled into one. He counts among India’s most famous heart specialists, and in 2001 used donations to build the country’s largest private heart clinic, with 450 beds and 8 operation theaters in continual use. There he pursued an unusual low-cost business model – aiming to make cost-intensive heart operations accessible to India’s lower income classes. Smart management and mixed sources of finance have enabled Shetty to reduce costs dramatically, more than half of his patients are treated at cost or even for free. Shetty’s work earned him the Schwab Foundation’s Social Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2005.

    Devi Shetty is not …
Devi Shetty is not only one of the best cardiac surgeons, he is one of the best human beings in the world. India should give him the highest national award. People knows film stars, criketars, politicians, very few know people like him who are working silently for humanity. As a nation, we also dont know how to appreciate the greatness of this kind of people. This is a mass ignorance not to know and appreciate the greatness of this people.

    What is causing so …
What is causing so many children in India to have heart problems? I always associated heart problems with older over weight people in Western countries like America. Heart problems before you’re 10 and running on the treadmill for life? This baffles me. Good doctor. I hope his concept spreads and lives on.
