Is college totally necessary for an aspiring entrepreneur?

Posted by admin on April 25th, 2010 and filed under successful entrepreneur | 3 Comments »

Lately, I have been frustrated about college in general. I mean, you pay thousands of dollars, only to graduate and be so in debt, you wouldn t be able to start a business. I am a management major and plan to pursue entrepreneurship, but along with it are pointless courses like calc 2 and some religious crap and I just don t see the point. There are so many successful entrepreneurs either without a college degree or those who have degrees but werent trained in entrepreneurship specifically. ANy thoughts?

Of course it’s not totally necessary. It might help you get venture capital if you have a college degree, and you will learn some things that will make you better at running a business, but obviously there are successful entrepreneurs without management degrees – in fact, there are probably a lot more with engineering degrees than management degrees.

what does it takes to be a successful entrepreneur?

Posted by admin on April 23rd, 2010 and filed under successful entrepreneur | 5 Comments »

To become a successful entrepreneur, lots of people say determination, elbow grease, and the likes! but that only takes you so far. You need to fully answer the question – What is the need of a particular market, and can I fully and effectively solve this need. Then you need to understand your target market, and determine what niche you will serve (afteall, if everyone is your market, no one is your market). You then need to be able to market and sell the product to the customers, if this is an area one is weak at, hire this function. We cannot all the jack of all trade. So in my mind, that is what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur!

Is anything more despised by liberals than a successful entrepreneur with no need of government assistance?

Posted by admin on April 21st, 2010 and filed under successful entrepreneur | 13 Comments »

This doesn’t even seem like a question that has an answer.

I’m a liberal and have been a successful entrepreneur without need of government assistance. I ran my own business and paid my own brutally high taxes for 8 years. I decided to join a company only because I got tired of managing my own 1099s and paying about 40% of my income to taxes, even after deductions.

Someone like you might think that I am not actually a liberal, but I assure you, I am. I believe that everyone deserves a chance at making a living and not sacrificing their livelihood by having a cripplingly high medical expense (my friend recently had an accident and had no health insurance and now has more than $70k in medical bills, which he has no chance of paying off). I believe that the government shouldn’t tell people who they can and can’t marry. I believe that women deserve equal pay for equal work. I believe that abortions should be safe and legal. I believe that schools and education is a critical investment in our future. I believe that we are the custodians of our environment and it’s our responsibility to stop mega-corporations from dumping crap into the air and water.

And I believe that our country is built for people who believe that we are our brothers’ keepers if we want to be.

Your question basically asks why liberals want people to fail. This is totally ridiculous. Liberals don’t want people to fail. Liberals want people to succeed and we think that sometimes people need help in order to succeed, so we vote to support programs that we feel will help others succeed.

So I guess I ask you back: is there anything more despised by conservatives than a successful, independent, and compassionate liberal?
