What do you think are some of the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur?

thanks for answering :)

Successful entrepreneurs need to see success. Many of the top businessmen around have seen a product and the associated success that could possibly come with it. Take Michael Dell for example. He believed in the potential of computers way ahead of his time, and built a business from his dorm room. Once you have managed to visualize your success, planning the road to this achievement is a must.

If you don’t plan extensively about your new idea or concept, without thinking ahead, you might encounter unforeseen difficulties with management or cashflow. I recommend using a business plan which incorporates:

What your product/idea is.
How does it differ from other products and how will it make you become successful.
Who your audience is.
What money you need to spend in terms of product cost, advertising, shipping, staff, and so on.
What profits you are hoping to make.
Perseverance is also key in becoming a full-time entrepreneur. For me, this is essential especially in the blogging field, as in order to maintain a good readership and a good income if you are using ads on your site, you need to post regularly and with quality content. Bloggers in particular are more likely to experience burn-out if they work too hard, and can also experience a drought in terms of traffic if they slacken the pace. A true entrepreneur will be able to prevent the feeling of being “burnt out if they know what their goals are, and if they love the task of always having to meet deadlines. Discipline is also the key in this field, as an entrepreneur must work hard in order to achieve. We often see Get Rich Quick Schemes and let me tell you that in 99.9% of these cases, obtaining money quickly is just not possible. I have finally learnt (through many financial losses) that only discipline and hard work can result in rewards.

Tied in with this is the recognition that you, as an entrepreneur, never consider failure as an option. Too often these days, have I seen businesses or individuals deem themselves failed if they have not achieved a set of targets. Failure simply is not a word in the dictionary of an entrepreneur, as even if a project is not going well, an entrepreneur will find new ways of coping with the situation and will adjust his aims to fit in with the task in hand.

Entrepreneurs also need to manage their time properly. There’s no point in spending a whole day over a task, when in reality it will be cheaper and more effective to hire someone to help you with a certain task, thus enabling you to produce more profit. Delegating jobs and staff and being able to manage as well as bringing in the bucks is a true mark of an entrepreneur and one who knows what he is doing.

A successful entrepreneur must have an air or a grace about him that will demand respect from other individuals. I would like to say that I am a very friendly person, always looking for new contacts and always trying to network with others who share similar skills and attributes. At the same time, you must also conduct business in a very formal way, being punctual, polite and remaining cool under pressure.

Working for a startup headed by a 10 time successful serial entrepreneur?

Posted by admin on March 6th, 2010 and filed under successful entrepreneur | 2 Comments »

Management consists of a large insurance firm, a CEO of a similar industry, and a professor from a prominent business school.

They are paying me market salary with health benefits and 10,000 stock options. Is this a deal worth jumping on?

It sounds good on the surface but you don’t say what your position or role would be or what experience or expertise you bring to the table. Are you a key technologist or manager that can provide important innovation or experience? A 10,000 share stock option may sound like a lot to some people but it really depends on how many shares they have. If you are young and inexperienced, you don’t have leverage to ask for more but if you are a key person, that changes everything.

Wendy Stevens Women Baby Boomers part 2 two
The Characteristics of a Successful Boomer Woman Entrepreneur
By Wendy Stevens

What I’m about to tell you will surprise you. You may think that successful entrepreneurs are free-spirits who despise structure and are renegades who would rather work alone, only reluctantly hiring a team because there’s no other choice.
What it takes to break away from the good old W-2 and start your own venture is a curious mix. Forget about the idea that you have to learn how to do everything yourself. The successful entrepreneur is far from this Lone Ranger model of running a business. In my model of entrepreneurialism, it’s what experts call a “Cash Machine” business, you get to strengthen your strengths and hire your weaknesses.
Hiring the right people who will do what you can’t or don’t want to do is perhaps the one thing that differentiates a successful entrepreneur from one who simply moves from one job (working for someone else) to another job (working for him or herself). It’s also a key difference between having a hobby and having a real business in which you earn a healthy income — far better than what you’re making at your current W-2 job!
Here are the key characteristics that you’ll want to have or cultivate in yourself:
You must be the business owner. There’s a lot of confusion about this characteristic, even amongst those I’ve coached. Being a business owner means that you take charge of your life. You begin running your life like a business, and run your business like you mean it. You must decide to take charge of every aspect of your life and business, leaving that shy, meek, “really nice person” behind. I don’t mean that you have to become ruthless, but you do have to decide to be responsible and in charge.

Courage. It takes a certain amount of courage to get up every day, day after day, and take full responsibility for old problems, new challenges, and the day-to-day struggles that always arise. Some days will be fantastic, and others may feel like the hardest days of your life. Regardless of any existing or new circumstances, you have the heart to stick with it, literally owning your vision, and having faith in your ability to succeed.

Resourcefulness. While I recommend modeling your cash machine business after another successful business, not everything will be the same. Times and circumstances change, and you’ve got to change with them. Often this requires a certain resourcefulness to seek out new opportunities and find innovative solutions to challenges. It also means finding the right people to help you with each unique situation, rather than trying to figure out everything on your own. Resourcefulness really requires you to learn how to work well with others, seeking advice and guidance when necessary.

Sequencing. This is often a tough concept for people to grasp. But it’s really quite simple. The fastest route between two points is a straight line. I’m simply asking you to move in a straight line, taking each step as it comes, sequencing your activities so that you’re doing the right things at the right time. Many entrepreneurs just shoot buckshot at problems, hoping that one will hit the target. You’ll focus on taking the next right action, and following it with the action that’s appropriate at that time.

Persistence. Honestly, you have to stick to it. Sometimes you’ll fail — we all have. But when you are persistent, you’ll learn from your experiences and will soon have far more successes than failures.

Flexibility. Yes, you must be flexible. Be open to trying new things, but remain decisive. Flexibility isn’t wishy-washy. It’s being able to make a clear decision on a direction, but quickly make a new decision to change course if necessary. Stay in motion, because as soon as you start to fear failure, you’ll lose your flexibility and get stuck in an endless downward spiral.
As you can see, much of being a successful entrepreneur has to do with your psychology — what you are inside. The good news is that everything I’ve mentioned can be developed, regardless of where you are today. But you must start today. Decide to be a millionaire entrepreneur.
