entrepreneurs: i own a perfume business in the swapmeet, i want to move to the mall, is this a good idea?

Posted by admin on April 9th, 2010 and filed under business entrepreneurs | 3 Comments »

the rent in a mall is more expensive than in the swapmeet, but along with the cost comes better location. so im wondering, how successful can a perfume and cosmetic accessories be in a mall? and in the end, will the profits outweigh the costs?

Ohhhh the mall can be deadly and you can’t walk away like the swap meet. I see so may people in Kiosks just standing there, trying to get people’s attention. Soon after, I don’t see that business there anymore. If you get a store front, it’s going be real hard to get people in, if no one is at the mall. The mall is getting less popular too for many stores that used to occupy space there. So, be your own judge. Go to the mall and walk around in the quiet morning hours right after it opens. See how many stores are not there anymore. Try to understand what they were and what fate they suffered. Ask their old neighbors what happened. (Most will gladly tell you). The mall is like a big family. Everybody knows what’s going on. It’s Spring, and Summer is right around the corner. The mall is typically dead during the summer. Nothing is going on. You sell something that does good at Christmas time, valentines day, mother’s day, and father’s day.
I don’t mean to be a downer, but I worked in the mall selling cell phones, both in a store and in kiosk. When we were busy, it was chaos. When we were dead, it was dead. No one even walking around. I was right next to a very large department store. I used to talk to the manager. There were some days he sent everyone home on the sales floor except cashiers because it was so slow. Imagine paying the rent at the mall, with what you sell at the swap meet. Can you do it? And eat?
One thing you might want to do, is if there are large vacancies, is something we used to do. Tell the mall mgr you want a month to month lease and you want to pay say $1000 a month. (You may be in a $3000 store front). Negotiate hard, cause if they need you there, you have the power, not them. GOOD luck

similarities and differences with business entrepreneurs?

Posted by admin on April 7th, 2010 and filed under business entrepreneurs | 1 Comment »

We use the terms entrepreneur and small business owner (SBO) interchangeably.

Although you start out as a small business owner, somewhere along the way you either remain a SBO or you become an entrepreneur. If you are contented with earning enough profits to live a comfortable life and keep your business afloat, chances are you are a small business owner. This type of income replaces your income stream, which you earned from traditional employment. You really are not interested in growing or expanding your business. More than likely you will keep the business in your family.

Maybe you are not satisfied with the status quo, and you are very ambitious and have the drive to go beyond just surviving. You would fit the definition of an entrepreneur. You will take more risks. Entrepreneurs enjoy learning through growing and expanding their businesses. Some establish businesses for the purpose of resale after realizing a certain amount of wealth. It may take a lifetime for a small business owner to earn wealth compared to approximately five years for a successful entrepreneur.

Another difference is how innovative are you. Small business owners are not the type to "think out the box"; whereas, entrepreneurs come up with new ideas, innovations, and products, as well as construct creative, strategic marketing plans.

If you are the type who works in their business, you would be considered to be a small business owner. You are more repetitive. On the other hand, if you tend to strategically work on your business, evolving it, change target markets, if necessary, you are an entrepreneur. As a SBO, you tend to not change markets. In addition, your markets may be more general when compared with entrepreneurs who target markets are more focused.

In regards to staffing, if you are a small business owner, you may have employees, which would involve having to pay employee-related expenses; such as, benefits and taxes. As an entrepreneur, you may choose to work with independent contractors rather than having employees work for you.

There are some of you who tend to have characteristics of both groups. For example, as an entrepreneur, you may choose to keep the business in your family, just like a small business owner, rather than selling it. In addition to having this in common, there are similarities in operating your businesses. Both of you have to do some degree of advertising and marketing, as well as daily administrative functions.

Overall, a notable difference is as a small business owner, you tend to need motivation; whereas, if you can be described as an entrepreneur, you are fuelled by ambition, drive and inspiration. Although similarities exist among the two groups, according to my research findings, the two terms are not interchangeable, and there are significant differences.

Who wants to form a group of teen entrepreneurs with me in order to start a new business in Houston/Internet?

Posted by admin on April 5th, 2010 and filed under business entrepreneurs | 4 Comments »

I have been trying to start a business for years, but I am always either short on finances (I pay $200 a month for car insurance without a steady income) or it would be a lot easier once I’m 18… So I decided that if I can get a group of teens together, we could come up with a good idea and see if it works.

I would prefer to get a group together in Houston so that we wouldn’t be restricted to the Internet, but if you live outside of Houston it will be easier to recruit from all around the U.S….

E-mail me at titans8904@yahoo.com if you have an idea/want to join or just post here…

what kind of business? u could easily do one on ebay
